How are the 2019 Games

If you have been living in a bubble during the last year or you are new in the world of CrossFit, You may not know that after the 2018 Games a series of drastic changes were announced for the 2019 season. Among those changes was the suppression of the invitational (the All Star of the CrossFit), as well as the regionals as part of the athlete selection process for the Games. This brought with him new ways to reach the CrossFit Games: Being world top20 in the Open, being the national champion in the Open or win CrossFit (As is French Throwdown this weekend, last of the season). In addition to these changes there were others such as the mass dismissal of the entire communication team of CrossFit HQ what has had different repercussions. Now that we know the past, this is the present and future. To the CrossFit Games 2019 will not arrive the 40 athletes classified through regional ones if not around 160 (National Champions, World Cup 20 and Sanctional Winners). Much has been speculated how the format of these games that multiply by 4 the presence of athletes will multiply. AND We already know how they will be.

Duration

The duration of recent years has been from Wednesday to Sunday, on Thursday being a day off. On Wednesday it was traditionally a day of long cardio lying (swimming in the sea, race, etc.) although last year we saw a different format. This duration raised different problems. For the public to have a day without "anything" to do (some master and teen did compete) made the trip to Madison be tedious, in turn this also meant a problem for the companies that go as sellers since it was a day with scarce movement. This year, the Games are held from Thursday, August 1 to Sunday, August 4. You may have heard rumors that the national champions begin on Monday, July 29 and that these will be cut and only the best will arrive at Thursday. These rumors are false. Why are they false? For the most powerful reason of all. The money. Starting the Games on a Monday implies that judges, volunteers, vendors, mean, assembly, etc. ... You have to work 4 days more only to filter the best athletes. Don't you convince you? Another one: in theory the "less" good athletes would face Aunt-Clair Toomey with 3 days of competition in the body. In addition, world -size athletes such as Sara Sigmundsdottir or Toomey themselves have classified as national champions. Are they really going to fatigue their stars 3 days? Do you need more? Ok, tickets to the Games. The tickets to the Games are being sold for months and these are from August 1 to 4. Are the athletes behind closed doors compete? Without a audience? If there is no audience, are the Games to be mounted (money) only to make a kind of regionals behind closed doors? It seems that this is clear the duration of the 2019 Games.

How will the format be

We know that during these Games athletes are going to be eliminated. We basically know because Greg Glassman CEO of CrossFit He said it during an interview enough months ago. Ok, now that you are already clear that the Games last 4 consecutive days we will see How will this athlete elimination process be. Are you prepared? Drum Redoble ..... As it has always been done! In Regionals, Games, and other championships such as the Invitational Rogue, With minimums in each wod. Perhaps as spectators we are not aware but all regional and Games events have a minimum. Some example: Rita García in the 2016 Meridian Regionals was disqualified (many thought she had retired) because in a WOD it was mandatory to finish some Wall Ball and she did not give time. Laura Horvath and Margaux Alvarez were disqualified in the Invitational Rogue for not finishing the HSPU Deficit Deficit of the penultimate event. There are many examples and if we also take into account that CrossFit It has data to form a profile of the Top 10 athlete, it is very easy to make events with minimums that make only the 10 best athletes in the world reach Sunday. Let's do an exercise with the 2018 Games. We take the first day events. Event 1: Cycling criteria Event 2: 30 Ring Mu Event 3: CrossFit Total Event 4: Row Marathon CrossFit He knows that a world top10 athlete makes the cycling criteria in 10 minutes, the 30 RMU in 4, raises more than 450kg in the CrossFit Total and ends the Row Marathon in less than 3h those would be the minimums of each event. How many athletes from all over the world would come to day 2 of competition? Perhaps a top10 of 2018 is not the fastest on the bike, because the champion of Austria or Paraguay is an ex-click. Maybe a top10 does not win the CrossFit Total because the Eau champion is an ex-powerlifter. But an athlete CrossFit It does not have to be the best in everything, if not the most regular. How (we do know that) they will be the Games 2019 Fun. The show will not be committed to all these changes, on the contrary, I think that some unknown athletes can be specialists in certain WOD and can make spectacular performances. Will we see MatraSer suffer in a WOD against a pure specialist? There is nothing confirmed, nothing definitive, nothing sure, but a month is left to discover it and enjoy the show.
